The installation of The Sky Over Nine Columns was realised by Beck & Eggeling International Fine Art (Düsseldorf ) and Sigifredo di Canossa, in cooperation with the Giorgio Cini Foundation.

One of the grandest installations exhibited during the 2014 Venice Biennale of Architecture. “The Sky Over Nine Columns” was designed by German artist Heinz Mack to showcase the importance of the column in architectural history.

Nine symmetric, seven-meter high columns entirely decorated with 850.000 24K gold mosaic tiles recalling the golden mantle of the nearby St. Mark’s Basilica. According to Mack “the stelae symbolize man standing erect and with dignity in the limitless space”.
