Preparation phase for laying process: General condition
The beginning of every laying phase starts with the unpacking of the slab boxes. It is always useful to verify the condition of each tile contained in the boxes before beginning to lay, and it is good practice to keep the material that will be laid at the same temperature of the final location (temperature limits from + 15 °C to + 35 °C).
The material, as shown on the boxes, has to be kept horizontally, indoor in a dry place; it is also recommended to take the material on site at least 24 hours prior to laying.
In some cases slabs might be curved, it is not to be considered a defect but a characteristic of agglomerates; slabs shall be flattened before laying following this simple procedure:
Take the slabs out of the box, place them upper side against upper side, put them on a horizontal surface at indoor temperature; put some weight on each corner (e.g. glue buckets) and leave it for at least 24 hours till slabs are flat again.
Adhesive and screed
The substrate, not only has to be properly prepared, but it also has to be dry (humidity less than 5-8%). The glue has to be composed by the correct quantity of water, as indicated in the packaging, and should not be too liquid. The compound should be used without adding more liquid during the time of usage; in case the laying process has to be interrupted for any reason, the glue not used should be throw away and not recycled for any reason.

Storing material on site: always make sure they are positioned on a completely flat surface.
Once the reference grid has been marked, spread the quick-setting. The adhesive is spread over (floor/wall covering) making sure that the notches on the spreader are a suitable size.
At the same time, with the smooth part of the float, spread the adhesive over the back of the slab in a double layer to create a minimum thickness of few mm. Buttering floating method has to be used with all sizes, both big and small.
Place the tile with great care, exerting firm, even pressure to give perfect adhesion to the base and to squeeze out any excess adhesive.
Checking: it is good practice to check contact between the adhesive and the slab by raising one or more slabs after they have been laid and set in place.

Grouting and final cleaning: General guidelines
The surface of the slab must be kept clean and any adhesive on the edges must be removed immediately after laying, before the adhesive has hardened.
Using a water-soaked sponge, clean the entire surface of the laid tiles, removing all the residual adhesive. Once the adhesive has completely hardened, you can begin the grouting process; pay attention to use perfectly clean instruments to prevent that any hardened residual damage the brightness of the tiles.
