CAD technique

This technique uses computer-aided design to transform an image into a mosaic made up of thousands of glass tiles, each acting as a precise “pixel” with its own color and position. Thanks to software exclusively developed by TREND, any image can be quickly reproduced as a mosaic.
The CAD technique is ideal for creating modern and contemporary decorations over large surfaces, such as pictorial or photographic representations. Subjects are reproduced using full tiles of 1 x 1 cm or 2 x 2 cm, with a detailed, sequentially numbered placement map. The result is a perfectly proportioned composition, precisely adapted to the dimensions of the area to be covered.
Artistic technique
A mosaic created using the artistic technique is handcrafted with tiles cut by hand in various sizes, often irregular but unique in shape and color. The goal is to reproduce complex, detailed subjects with depth, shading, and movement. The tiles, usually very small, can be used whole or cut to achieve an extremely precise and meticulous rendering of the subject.
TREND can reproduce any type of image thanks to proprietary software that supports the design process, although the entire execution is still carried out manually. The process involves creating a placement map with interconnected sheets and sequential numbering. To ensure full control over the final result, each design is assembled “dry” before being divided into sheets and shipped to the client.
This technique allows for the creation of complex, highly detailed subjects and is particularly suited for classical decorations or natural motifs characterized by soft, flowing lines and curves.
Mixed technique
This technique combines the CAD and Artistic techniques to reproduce complex designs, creating detailed patterns on regular or monochrome backgrounds. It is particularly suited for decorative representations over large surfaces. As with the other techniques, a detailed placement map with interconnected sheets and sequential numbering is provided.

Traditional technique with smalti: Modern interpretation
The traditional technique, reimagined in a modern key, uses hand-cut Orsoni Venetian Smalti tiles in various sizes and shapes to reproduce complex, highly detailed artistic subjects. Skilled mosaicists create this type of mosaic using either the direct or indirect method, depending on the project’s requirements. Special attention is given to color selection, a crucial element for ensuring a faithful reproduction of the original subject. Once the reference color ranges are defined, the Smalti slabs are hand-cut to achieve tiles of the desired size.
This technique brings to life truly unique works that combine craftsmanship, tradition, and contemporary interpretation.
Traditional technique with smalti: Classical interpretation
The classical traditional mosaic technique is a handcrafted method using Orsoni Venetian Smalti, renowned for their intense colors and luminous reflection. The Smalti are hand-cut into tiles and carefully laid to create decorations inspired by traditional motifs and subjects, often drawn from ancient art.
Tiles are cut and placed with precision to faithfully reproduce the details and shading of the original design. Depending on artistic tradition and the complexity of the subject, mosaics created with this technique may be assembled using either the direct or indirect method.
