Description
Located in Kazakhstan’s modern capital, Astana, the Astana Grand Mosque is the largest mosque in Central Asia, the second-largest outside the Middle East, and one of the largest in the world. This extraordinary place of worship, completed in 2022 with the aim of representing the spiritual and cultural identity of the country, harmoniously blends tradition and innovation in its architectural design.
The walls of the mosque and the interior of the dome are adorned with colorful patterns, verses from the Quran, and prayers. The Arabic calligraphy was illustrated by Kazakh master Asylbek Baizakuly.
The wall facing the qibla is inscribed with the 99 names of Allah, illuminated from within by a golden glow. This monumental mosaic wall, 100 meters long and 22.4 meters high, consists of 25 million colored glass tesserae. Covering 2,787.6 square meters, it transforms the wall into a true focal point of devotion and beauty.
